We hand-cut the perimeter boards to follow flint, brick and inglenook hearths properly, and run moisture readings across the whole subfloor including under any UFH circuits. For rooms within reach of a woodburner or Aga we lean toward engineered cores — they take heat cycling better than solid boards and don’t need acclimatising — and where we’re laying solid wood we acclimatise the boards on-site first.
