Mostly original suspended timber over generous voids — pine and elm boards laid wide, fixed with cut nails, with plenty of natural movement to plan around. We always survey by lifting a discreet board before quoting so we can read the joist condition and the ventilation honestly, then lean toward gentle gap-filling with traditional pine slivers and a satin hardwax-oil finish. The floor reads as original to anyone who isn’t looking at it with a torch, and ages in step with the rest of the building.
Wooden floors restored & installed across Petersfield’s Georgian market town.
From the Square and St Peter’s Norman church to the Edwardian villas around Heath Pond and the South Downs farmhouses out along the Meon Valley — parquet, hardwood and full restorations by a family team who’ll happily make the run up from the coast.

Georgian & farmhouse floors in Petersfield.
Petersfield is the proper market town of the patch — forty minutes up the A3 from the Bognor workshop, tucked under the northern scarp of the South Downs where Hampshire and West Sussex meet, with a Georgian Square, a Norman church and a working Wednesday market that has been running on the same flagstones since the 1300s. The architecture stacks up beautifully from the centre out: red-brick Georgian merchants’ houses around the Square and Sheep Street, the Regency and early-Victorian terraces of College Street and Dragon Street, the Edwardian villas along Heath Road and around Heath Pond, and then the Bedales-era Arts & Crafts cottages out at Steep where Edward Thomas wrote his poems before the war. We’ve lifted plenty of original pine and elm board in the Georgian properties around The Square and The Spain, hand-buffed parquet back from forty years of neglect in the College Street terraces, and laid wide-plank oak through bigger Edwardian houses up by the Heath.
Further out toward Sheet, Steep, Stroud and the Meon Valley villages — East Meon, Buriton, Froxfield, Hawkley — the work shifts toward farmhouse and barn-conversion jobs in proper South Downs National Park country. Herringbone re-laid across open-plan flint-and-brick kitchen-diners, walnut feature rooms in former dairy buildings, brushed engineered oak through long flagstone hallways. The drive up is honest, the Square on a market day is worth the run on its own, and the standard never changes — same hand, same patience, same respect for the building you’re working in.
Georgian merchants’ floors reward a slower hand.
Petersfield’s housing stock spans six centuries inside two square miles, and the wood-floor brief genuinely shifts with each property. Three property types come up again and again across our patch — and each one wants a different hand on the install.
Deeper voids, sash windows, and a rhythm all their own. Often a 1980s carpet stripped back to reveal the original boards underneath in surprisingly good shape if they’ve been left alone — we’ll lift a corner on the survey, read the timber, and tell you honestly whether it wants restoration or replacement before you commit to either.
Bigger jobs in bigger buildings. We lean toward engineered cores — stable enough not to need acclimatising — run a moisture-meter pass over every subfloor (underfloor heating, flagstone-hearth perimeters and inglenook surrounds included), and where we’re laying solid wood we acclimatise the boards on-site first. We bring sample boards in oak, walnut and reclaimed pine so the species can be matched to the room before a single block is cut.
Floors for Petersfield homes — the work we'd bring.
We serve Petersfield and the Meon Valley, laying and restoring hardwood and parquet — dark herringbone for a Georgian hallway, pale wide-plank for a farmhouse. The kind of floor we'd specify for yours.
Grey-toned oak herringbone
The kind of herringbone we’d set into a Petersfield cloakroom — grey-toned oak blocks laid in a tight herringbone against dark botanical walls, the cool grey picking up the low skirting light and giving way to a paler natural oak at the threshold.
Pale natural oak herringbone
How we’d floor a new-build room near Petersfield — pale natural oak laid in a generous herringbone running back from black Crittall-style doors, the soft blond tone and matt finish keeping the light and airy feel against deep grey-blue walls.
Pale blonde maple staircase
The kind of staircase we’d finish in a Petersfield home — pale blonde treads and risers in a clean maple tone with a fine even grain, paired with a glass balustrade and white walls and sealed to a soft satin for a light, contemporary stair.
Restored honey pine boards
The sort of restoration we’d bring to a Petersfield home — original pine boards run through a hallway and brought back to a warm honey colour, the grain and old knots left on show under a glossy satin finish that catches the light across the floor.

Our work in Petersfield is anchored by the GU31 postcode — Georgian merchants’ houses around The Square & Sheep Street all sit squarely inside it, with regular jobs reaching out into the neighbouring GU32 where Edwardian villas along Heath Road & around Heath Pond keep us busy. Around 40 minutes up from the Bognor Regis workshop — same craftsman every visit, flat-rate quotes by the job not the mile.
Whether the address reads GU31 or GU32, the Petersfield brief is the same: Darren surveys on-site, sample boards stay with you for a fortnight under your own lighting, and the install runs in a single solid stretch rather than back-and-forth day trips. It matters in places like South Downs farmhouses out toward East Meon & Buriton where the subfloors and the building fabric earn a slower pass. Family team since 1997, working across Hampshire from the same coastal base. Around 14.5k residents in the town centre, and we’ve quoted on hundreds of the homes within walking distance of it.
“It was a delight to have such a professional team to work with and lay our engineered oak flooring. Carl even cut the wood to perfectly fit around a wobbly flint wall edge - stunning. Would thoroughly recommend Darren and his team!”
