20 minutes from our Bognor Regis workshop · Covering PO20
Donnington sits a mile south of Chichester city walls on the Selsey Road, twenty minutes from our Bognor Regis workshop, and the parish is squarely on our regular run down to the Manhood Peninsula. It's a small village — a medieval church, a canal, a handful of older lanes and a band of mid-twentieth-century housing along the main road — but the work that lands here covers a fair spread of stock.
Around St George's Church and the older cottages on Stockbridge Road it's mostly restoration: original boards lifted, gap-filled traditionally and finished with hardwax oils that suit the period. Out along the Chichester Canal and the lanes that meet the Selsey Road, the briefs shift more toward installation — engineered oak in kitchen extensions, the occasional parquet revival, a wider-plank reception room. Different houses, same standard.
Donnington's housing stock splits roughly into three: older cottages near the church, canal-side properties along the Chichester Canal, and a band of post-war housing along the Selsey Road. Each wants a slightly different approach. For the period cottages we always survey the void below the boards before lifting anything — ventilation, joist condition and moisture readings — and lean toward hardwax oils that suit the age of the property and stay easy to spot-repair.
For canal-side homes we lean toward engineered cores within easy reach of the water — they handle humidity swings in their stride and don't need acclimatising — and run a moisture-meter pass over every subfloor before quoting.
For the post-war stock, installs are usually more straightforward; we'll still check screed moisture and DPM before we lay a board.
From cottages around St George's to canal-side homes on the Chichester Canal towpath, we fit and restore hardwood and engineered floors throughout Donnington and PO20 — since 1997.
