Dell Quay sits on the eastern shore of Chichester Harbour in the parish of Apuldram, two miles south-west of Chichester and twenty-five minutes from our Bognor Regis workshop. It's a small place — a working sailing club, the Crown & Anchor on the foreshore, the Salterns Way path running through, and a scatter of cottages along Dell Quay Road and the lanes through Apuldram — but it's squarely on our regular run around the Harbour AONB.
The work that lands here is mostly waterside: period cottages within yards of the foreshore, the odd boathouse conversion, and the older stock around Apuldram church and the lanes inland. Restoration of original boards is common, and installs lean toward engineered cores that handle the humidity swings off the channel without complaint. Different houses, same standard.
Dell Quay sits inside the Chichester Harbour AONB and most of the work here is within a short walk of the water. That matters for a wood floor. Salt humidity swings hard between summer and winter, and the harbour-fringe cottages along Dell Quay Road can pull damp through the subfloor if the void isn't ventilated. We lean toward engineered cores for installs within easy reach of the channel — they take humidity in their stride and don't need acclimatising — run a moisture-meter pass over every subfloor before quoting, and where solid wood is the right call we acclimatise the boards on-site first.
For period cottages we always survey the void below the boards before lifting anything, and we lean toward hardwax oils that stay easy to spot-repair after a wet sailing boot or a soggy retriever.
Period cottages along Dell Quay Road and the waterside conversions of the Chichester Harbour AONB call for moisture-wise floors — fitted and restored across Dell Quay and PO20.

Read moreOur work in Dell Quay is anchored by the PO20 postcode — Period cottages along Dell Quay Road and the foreshore at the head of Chichester Channel all sit squarely inside it, with regular jobs reaching out into the neighbouring PO19 where Apuldram parish stock around St Mary's Church and the lanes inland keep us busy. Around 25 minutes up from the Bognor Regis workshop — same craftsman every visit, flat-rate quotes by the job not the mile.
Whether the address reads PO20 or PO19, the Dell Quay brief is the same: Darren surveys on-site, sample boards stay with you for a fortnight under your own lighting, and the install runs in a single solid stretch rather than back-and-forth day trips. It matters in places like Chichester Harbour AONB — Salterns Way path and waterside conversions where the subfloors and the building fabric earn a slower pass. Family team since 1997, working across West Sussex from the same coastal base. Around 0.4k residents in the town centre, and we’ve quoted on hundreds of the homes within walking distance of it.
Every wood flooring pattern, character finish and construction Darren installs — solid hardwood, engineered oak, herringbone and parquet — laid out edge-to-edge so you can see real grain, real colour, real texture.
Darren will visit, measure up and walk you through species, finishes and lead times. No pressure, no hard sell — just specialist advice.
